Sultans of Swing | Benjy & Barty.
Bartemius Crouch Jr.’s footsteps echoed in the corridor as he walked up towards the tower that belong to silver and royal blue Ravenclaws. A cheek grin on his face and his usual circle sunglasses on his face, despite how dimly lit the castle had become as the sun was setting. Barty was in good spirits and to his surprise it wasn’t because he had killed another pet or managed to have a good student put in the Hospital Wing with a lost memory of how he or she got there. No, the grin that he wore on his face was because of a girl, a lovely girl at that! Nice, sweet, and blue eyed that made her seem completely innocent. It was that innocence that Barty wanted, those blue eyes he wanted to watch swell up with salty tears, and that nice and sweet side of her to fall and crumble in his hand. He wanted to crush her, make her feel less important than she already thought she was and further most, wanted to make her feel unloved and betrayed by the one person she never thought would hurt her: Barty Crouch Jr. He had a little spring in his step as his index finger trailed along next to him following the lines of the brick. He felt his finger go dry and chapped from the hard stone but he didn’t care, seeing as he had the girl playing right in the palm of his hand, it was enough to make him forget about any other problems that he might encounter.
He walked towards the stairs, his finger falling from the wall to reach out to grip the brass railing. Barty held on, staying back a little as he bent over backwards a bit to see a flash of golden blond hair walk by. He raised a brow watching a beautiful Slytherin girl wearing a fashionable high ponytail, her skin was of milk white and her eyes of coldest of all greys. She wore her green robes proud, the collar high around her neck as she showed off the serpent badge. The young man lifted up the dark tint of his sunglasses revealing the clear glass underneath. The girl paid no attention to Barty, she kept walking clinging to the arm of a young man with the same nose she bore. Alecto Carrow, he sighed watching her go around the corner completely ignoring Barty’s existence. He shrugged off the tiny bit of sadness in the pit of his stomach, she had never said hello to Barty so why would she start now? And it wasn’t like Barty really cared what she did or didn’t say to him anyway, he had another female waiting for him, and perhaps wanting him.
Barty continued to walk up the stairs, he let his hand fall at his side and into his pockets. His feet carried him up towards the tower as a group of young first years made their way through the great Ravenclaw doors. He was thankful to have the group of first years already ahead of him, he wasn’t in the mood to think of an answer for the raven door knocker’s riddle. He pushed himself inside, shoving a young student out of his way hard with his elbow. He heard one of his mates yell, HEY! at Barty who coolly turned around. The sunglasses part of his specs were still up from earlier. He raised a brow at the girl who stared up at the big blue eyed male who was only about three feet taller than they were. “Hm?” He asked, his eyes sharp as the children held their breath for a second. Barty was used to this, students who didn’t know him soon got to know him because of his famous surname: Crouch. Yes, the son to high ranking Ministry of Magic official, Bartemius Crouch Sr. Barty looked down at the boy he had shoved flashing them a quick smile, “O, sorry,” he said casually before turning his back and walking into the common room.
He pulled his hands out of his pocket, his left hand pulling out a single hand rolled cigarette. Barty pushed it to his lips making his way across the room towards the open window. He stopped midway in the room, his back turned towards the dark blue chairs near the fire. Barty held back a laugh that tickled in his throat, there, in the corner of his eye was him. The boy he planned on making life miserable: Benjy Fenwick. The cigarette clung down against his lips as he turned on his heels walking back over towards the boy, arms out and a big grin on his face.
“Fenwick! Long time no see, mate!” He said almost sounding happy to see him, he leaned against the armchair pushing his hand under his chin. “What have you been up to?” Barty asked as if he wasn’t trying to make the only girl Benjy truly loved cry.
Benjy had been debating all week whether to go talk to Mary or to just leave things the way they were. Sometimes he got so close to actually going and simply telling her everything just to have him come back and sulk in the common room because he had been a coward and turned around just as she was about to face him. Dorcas said that he needed to know, and that was the thing that scared him the most. What if she said yes, what if she felt the same way he did, he would never forgive himself for wasting all those years due to fear. But what if she doesn’t feel the same? Well at least he would know now. This was Dorcas reasoning, it was like telling him that he had nothing to lose because he had nothing to beging with, but he was scared to lose her at all, he was scared to lose even the little moments they had when they would be cutting ingredients for potions and she would ask for a knife, those moments that he had come to treasure in his heart. He definitely had something to lose.
Today had been one of those days when he had almost grabbed Mary’s hand as she had passed him in the hallway, he of course refrained from it and continued to walk towards Ravenclaw’s tower. He gave the eagle a witty answer and got through, Dorcas was nowhere in sight, he considered going to his room and wait for her but then he would never now when she had actually walked into the tower, so he had to stay in the common room. Benjy threw himself into one of the chairs by the fire and picked up a novel lying around, it would keep him entertained until Doe arrived. Students arrived, students left, and Benjy would raise his eyes from the book and take a look every time he hear the door being open. A group of first year entered the tower and behind them was Bartemius Crouch Jr., ever since he had returned from his trip to London he had became more and more agressive. Benjy had tried to tell Dorcas and Amelia about this but they would never believe such a thing from Barty. Dorcas even suggested that maybe Benjy was jealous because Mary and Barty had been recently spending a lot of time together. Benjy didn’t know if it was jealousy of if Barty was being careless, letting slip things like being rude to first years, or staring at professors with hate when he thought no one was watching. But Benjy was watching, because Barty had become a priority in his life, he wanted to know what was this boy hiding, and he was going to find out no matter how crazy his friends thought this sounded.
Benjy kept the book positioned in his face so that he could watch Barty’s moves but appear to be lost in the reading, of course Benjy knew that Barty wouldn’t fall for it but he couldn’t risk the rest of Ravenclaw finding out he was being suspicious of Bartemius Crouch Sr. son. Benjy watched as Barty was preparing to lit a cigarrett, and then he heard his cheerful voice calling his name. It’s time to play nice Benjy, its time to befriend him, he found himself thinking “Hey Barty!, just the usual stuff you know. I know it’s been a while since we last saw each other, last thing I knew you were in London. How was your trip mate?”
